|
Mary Alameda Carpenter is one of the most inspiring and tragic individuals in this entire genealogy.
She was the child of Patrick and Jane Blackman Carpenter born in October of 1826. She has a bunch of brothers and sisters (7).
She was married in about 1860 to George Miller and they had a daughter Margaret C. Then almost immediately, he died and she moved in with her parents. She was a Tailoress. Somehow she saved enough money to buy a house, because in 1870 she and her daughter are living on their own. Ten years after that her daughter gets married, and then dies in childbirth. By the time of the 1880 census, Her father has moved in with her, and her son-in law is living with her with her newborn granddaughter, also Margaret (and also called Maggie). By 1900 she is 78 years old and living in the household of her brother Sylvester and his wife Lora. She dies in October of 1907.
