Oliver Tenney, born in Newbury, Mass, 17 March 1723-4, son of William and Mehitable
(Pearson); married 30 April, 1752, Betty Jewett of Newbury (Town Record.) They
resided in Byfield parish, Rowley, Mass. At a town meeting held 17 March, 1770,
he was appointed to consider measures proper to prevent importation and encourage
home manufacture. (Hist. of Rowley.)
In December, 1778, he was appointed to take action to prevent the spread of smallpox.
(Gage's Hist.) In 1784, he was appointed the executor of his father's estate.
Mrs. Tenney died 9 January 1818 "of old age," aged eighty-five. Thedate
of his death has not been obtained. His will, dated 2 March, 1808, was proved
7 April, 1812, and mentions "wife Betty, son David, son Benjamin, son Samuel,
daughter Mehitable Belcher, and her children [Harriet and Oliver], daughter Ruth
Burbank, daughter Jane Young, daughter Olive Tenney, daughter Lois Foss, granddaughter
Mary Taylor, granddaughter Betty Sawyer.Sons Moses and Oliver were to have all
the real estate and to be the executors (Essex Probate, 382:181) He was married
to Betty Jewett on Apr 30 1752 in Newbury, MA.(4)
