"John Gibson, son of John and Rebecca Gibson, was born ca 1641 in Cambridge, MA., died in Cambridge on October 15, 1679; married 1st, December 9, 1668, Rebecca Errington (b. Cambridge, bapt. First Church, d. Cambridge on December 4, 1713), daughter of Abraham and Rebecca (Cutler) Errington, He was a soldier in King Phillip's War, private on list of Capt. Thomas Prentice's troopers August 27, 1675, in the first or Mt. Hope Expedition, the company leaving Boston the preceding June 24, fighting at swansea June 28, skirmishing in July on Mt. Hope neck near Mt. Hope of Pokanoket (Bristol, R.I.) the home of King Phillip; private on pay list of Lt. Edward Oakes' troopers March 24, 1675-6, scouting near Marlboro; impressed the preceding April 27, starting May 27 and reaching Hadley June 14; possibly the John Gibson on list of Capt. Joshua Scottow's men at Black Point near Saco, Me., September 1677."
