Charles Wolverton was born in England about 1660 and died
in Hunterdon County, NJ in 1795.
"Charles arrived Newcastlen on the Delaware river, Chester, Delaware CO. Pennsylvania 1682 on the flag ship WELCOME with the William Penn group. Tradition says he brought two of his brothers, Gabriel and John. Lived in
Staffordshire, sailed from Dorsetshire, England. Both brothers died of small pox. Charles was a very wealthy man.
Buried Rosemont Cemetery, Hunterdon Co. New Jersey. From all of the information I have received he was probably a Quaker. Owned much of the land that is now occupied by Fort Dix New Jersey. Belonged to the Society of Friends which was a Quaker group. Confirmed by minutes of the meetings in which he served as an officer. Elected one of the first Justices of the Peace.
He wrote 4 religious Papers that were published by Benjamin Franklin.
Charles owned A "Breeches Bible" printed in Geneva, Switzerland, april 10, 1560; By Roland Hall, and other eminent Protestants who were forced to leave England, because of their religious beliefs-persecutions under Queen Mary.
